Kingdom of Navarre, land of diversity

The ancient Reyno de Navarra offers the visitor enormous diversity in terms of landscapes. From the high peaks and gentle valleys in the Pyrenees - Roncal, Salazar, Aézcoa and Baztán – to the desert landscape offered by Bardenas Reales in the south of the region.

The north of Navarra shares the Forest of Irati with France, the second largest beech forest in Europe. Magic is present in the mysterious caves of Zugarramurdi and Urdax, where witches would once meet to hold their covens.

The Señorío de Bértiz Nature Park brings together species of plant from all corners of the planet. The Bértiz Palace can be used for small congresses.

The Pilgrims’ Route to Santiago has left true jewels of religious architecture in Navarra.  The Zona Media (Middle Zone) is a reflection of this, with Romanesque churches and monasteries such as those of Leyre, La Oliva, Eunate, Iranzu and Irache.

The Zona Media is dotted with castles such as the Royal Palace of Olite and the impressive castle of Javier, birthplace of St. Francisco Javier.

The Zona Media of Navarra, together with the La Ribera region, offers perfect conditions for wine production. That is why it is home to numerous wine cellars whose wines win international awards year after year.

La Ribera in the Autonomous Region of Navarra offers the spectacular landscape of Las Bardenas – a vast, desert-like territory criss-crossed by routes that can be followed by bike, on foot or by car.

Tudela, the capital of La Ribera region, was a fine example of two cultures living side-by-side in harmony which left their mark on the city. Nowadays it is a city associated with the network of Jewish quarters. This city, on the Ebro, is home to a magnificent recently-restored cathedral.

A testament to the Roman presence in Navarra is the town of Musas de Arellano, as well as the Roman settlement of Andelos, close to Mendigorría.
